Schools water polo festival at Spennymoor

On February 18, 2016 by Vicky Alderson

About 75 pupils from primary schools in the Spennymoor area enjoyed a water polo tournament at Spennymoor Leisure Centre on Thursday (February 11).

Although the competition between Kirk Merrington, King Street, North Park, Ox Close and Rosa Street Primary Schools was friendly there was an overall winner – Rosa Street Primary School.  Well done to all who took part.

The event was run by volunteers from our club and was funded by Spennymoor Area Action Partnership.

The idea of the festival was to give young people a chance to try the sport, have fun and think about taking it up.  It will be a completely new sport to many and we are keen to encourage new members (age 6+) into the club and the sport.

Coaches helped the youngsters as they played and those that showed talent or simply enjoyed it have an opportunity to take it up.  The AAP is funding 12 free taster sessions at Spennymoor Leisure Centre on Sundays, 5pm to 6pm, from this Sunday, February 14.

Booking is not necessary as a club committee member will attend each session with information.
