Last Saturday saw Sedgefield travel to Rotherham for the first of two Northern League Mens series of matches. On arrival it was clear that apart from Castleford and York the other teams were struggling to put a side out as well
Sedgefield were up against the host club Rotherham first. With short matches it was crucial to get a good start and with limited resources the team had to be disciplined. Sedgefield worked hard and overcame Rotherham with 4 players scoring to earn the 8-2 victory. Next match was against a Leeds side that contained junior players. The opening minutes didn’t go to plan but eventually Sedgefield managed to start scoring running out 11-2 victors. The final match of the day was against what was supposedly an understrength Sheffield team. Sheffield had too much fire power at their disposal and despite an outstanding shift in goal by Kris Eggington, Sheffield ran away with the game. The team played well and were disciplined in defence to keep majors to a bare minimum.
